TEXAS RACING COMES TO AN END. The anti-betting law enacted by the Texas legislature in March will go into effect today and in obe dience to the provisions of the new statute, the raee tracks at Houston and Fort Worth, where racing has been in progress for some weeks, closed their gates for an indefinite period at the conclusion of yesterdays racing. Most of the horses that have been racing at Texas points will proceed to Oklahoma, where a meeting will open next Tuesday. Others will ship to Salt Lake City and Butte. A sale of race horses in training belonging to Barney Schreiber will take place at Houston today. Mr. Sehreiber has disposed of nearly all the horses he shipped to Texas from California, and will leave Houston much richer in pocket, as his booking ■ l-rations at that point have been successful. Martin Nathanson. who has served as presiding inane ai Houston since Joseph A. Murphy left there to take up the duties of racing secretary at Latonia. is expected to return to Chicago immediately. The Hansen anti-bookmaking law became effective iu the slate of Washington yesterday. Xo attempt was made to race in the interim between its passage and the date of its going into operation.
