STELLALAND DISQUALIFIED , WILLIAM GARTH SUFFERS FROM SETBACK SECOND TIME ON CANADIAN CIRCUIT. j Steeplechase Jockey McKinney Indulges in Rough Tactics and Is Fined and Warned Therefor at Montreal — Favorites Doing Well. Montreal. Que.. June 11. — While the program offered by the Montreal Jockey Club this afternoon contained no special features, the card was withal a good one and. Iiotter still, results were pleasing to the large crowd that gathered at the beautlfnl Blue Bonnets course. Five favorites and a well-backed se f nd choice accounted for the winners, which, of course, meant that the layers hail an unprofitable day. Form luis been well served during the meeting and the few exceptions have been foT lowed by prompt judicial investigation. The first disqualification of the meeting came with the running of the steeplechase, in which William Garths Stellaland finished- first. It was the second purse which had been taken from Garth since he shipped to Canada. The officials could hardly have failed to disqualify Stellaland. as jockey McKinney had flagrantly roughed the favorite. Prince of Pllsen. when the latter began to close on him in the stretch. Stellaland fenced better than in anv of his previous races, and opened a big lead on his field the first time around. On the last lap Prince * of Pllsen began to reduce the gap that separate-l bim from the leader and at the last fence win within a couple of lengths of Stellaland. McKinney then kept see-sawing with the latter. He repeatedk crossed in front of Prince of Pilsen. which naturally confused Mauon to such an extent that he did not appeal to know just what to do. The result wa that Stellaland managed to last long enough to be.r the favorite nearly a length. McKinney could give no good excuse for his tactics, and the race ww promptly taken from Stellaland and Prince of Pllse.i placed first. As additional punishment. McKinnev waa fined 00. with a warning that repetition the offense would lead to the revocation of his license by the Canadian Racing Associations. The withdrawal of Red River, Pocoinoke and Verbatim ruined the third race. Only three went to the post. Centre Shot, Fulford and Lady Esther. Directly the barrier was sprung. Lady Esther stumbled and. going to her knees, unseated her rider. Lady Esther galloped 011 aiter her field and ran away four and a half miles before she" was caught. Centre Shot proved the easiest sort of a winner. The fourth race furnished the best contest of "the afternoon. Carthage and John Carroll finishing as named noses apart after a thrilling drive. R. H. Hobson. one of the directors of the Hamilton Jockey Club, was a visitor at Blue Bonnets this afternoon and witnessed the running of several races from the stewards stand. Captain Fred Presgrave, acting for a local gentleman, today purchased from William Garth the two-year-old. Bnsy. Matt Feakes has arranged to ship the stable he has been training here for Mrs. Livingston to Sheepshead Bay. The string contains several good two-year-olds. Thomas Clydes stabje will probably be shipped to Saratoga from here. Centre Shot showed the fastest half mile ever run over the Blue Bonnets course when she covered the first half of her race today in 461.
