STANLEY FAY TAKES STAKE WILLIAM WALKERS COLT CUTS RECORD IN MOUNT ROYAL HANDICAP AT MONTREAL. Thistledale and Kara, Coupled as Entry, Go Over Course Unopposed in Steeplechase Feature of Program — Joe Gaitens Disappoints. Montreal. One.. June 12.-This was the banner day of the Montreal Jockey Clubs meeting. The racing conditions could not well have been improved on and a tremendous gathering turned out to witness the sport. It was by far the largest crowd that was ever present at the new course and furnished an indication of tne growing popularity of racing as a pastime In this section of Canada. A splendid program was offered py the club, the feature of which was the Mount Royal Handicap, one of the annual fixtures of the spring meeting here. The race was well contested and William Walker furnished the winner. His sturdy colt. Stanley Fuy, won in bandy fashion from Hanbridge in track record time. Stanley Fay snowed keen speed at all stages and led ids Ibid from start to finish. He held Hanbridge safe throughout and could have won bv a greater margin had his rider wished it. The steeplechase, which was intended as one of the attractions, was ruined by the withdrawal of all but the Colt entry. Kara and Thisriedale. Ti.i-resulted in a walkover for the Colt pair. Bedwell. D. N. Prewitt. W. J. Young. J. T. Irelaud. F. Luzader and. possibly. T. P. Hayes. William Garth disposed of another of his two year-olds today, the Prospect Stable purchasing the colt. Merman, at a reported price of ,000. Mei-inan was heavily hacked by his new owner and won himself out when he captured the second race.
