OUTLINES PLANS FOR FLORIDA VENTURE, W. H. Fizer Declares That He and His Associates Stand for Peace in Florida Racing. Cincinnati, O.. June 12. W. If. Fizer. who is prominently Identified with the proposed new race track enterprise at South Jacksonville. Fla.. and who lias lust returned from a brief trip to Florida In con-nection with the venture, does not apprehend that there will pa any clash between the interests which lie represents and the "Curly" Brown faction on dates at Jacksonville. Mr. Fizer made the .following statement today: "I have lieen asked whether the purses will be of sufficient value to justify shipment of good horses to Florida next winter. 1 do not hesitate to say that everything on that score appears auspicious. I feel certain thai horsemen and followers of the turf Will be delighted with Florida in a racing way. and in everv other way. In the directorate of our Jack sotrviUe enterprise, and also of that at Tampa, will be found the names of men -all Florldans — who are honored and respected in their own comuiuuities. They are best because most intimately known. These meii will fill all positions of trust and confidence. "A misquotation and a misrepresentation in one of the dailv papers hampered us much at Jacksonville. The owners of the other track looked upon in. with suspicion, while rumors of a turf war. clashing of dates, etc.. filled the air. So I am glad of an opportunity to say publicly that so far as we are concerned peace will prevail in Florida. "When I left Florida everything was iu good shape and we shall begin work at once. We are attempting at Jacksonville something in addition to a race track — but of that later on. Suffice it to say that it is a big undertaking, requiring the investment of much inotiev. but it will help the sport and. after all is said, that is the prime consideration. Both tracks will Ik- promoted and owned by Florida capital. "It is well known that opposition, whether well grounded or not. has arisen to the practice of own era of race tracks running horses on their own tracks. Que., June 12.— Thomas McBride received word from F. J. Pons this morning that there is no truth in the story that an agreement has been reached to divide dates witlf the Fizer-Stro.le combination in Florida next winter. Mr. Pons and H. 1 . Brown feel as though they aro entitled to the support of the horsemen on account of tbe part they lila ved in saving tbe apart from destruction in Florida. Tallahassee. Fla.. June 12.— The Sloan bill, putting a ban on race track betting and stake holding m Florida, became a law yesterday when Governor Gil-.hrist affixed his signature. The provisions of the law will not be effective until May 1. 1911.
