PRETEND IMPRESSES THE EASTERNERS. New York. Juno 12.— Eastern horsemen are much impressed with Pretend, the two year-old that Walter Jennings uncovered at Gravesend Thursday. The general opinion prevails that Pretend will be fouud to ik- worth considerably more than the 00 at which he was entered to be sold, nnd that he is sure to show his real worth before the season is much " older. . , Pretend is a chestnut of. fair size and athletic conformation by Golden Maxim, out of Pretence, and therefore a half-brother to no less distinguished a horse than The Parader. Commandos great three-year-old rival in 1901. The Parader was a son of the celebrated I.ongstreet and Pretence and carried the colors of Richard T. Wilson. Jr.. wueu he raced. Commando defeated him in the Belmont Stakes at Morris Park after he bail taken the measure of Bonnibert in the Withers, but he turned tbe tables on the gigantic son of Domino and Emma C. at Sheepshead Bay and whipped him in the Lawrence Realization. The Parader broke down at Saratoga in August. 1901. and died in Kentucky durin- the following winter. Pretend was bred bv Henry T. Oxnard at Blue Ridge Stud, in Virginia, and was sold as a yearling by Milton Young to Catesby Woodford for 00. Mr. Oxnar.l is now the owner of Pretence, a daughter of Plenipo a ud Boulotte. by King Ernest. Pretence was bred by General William II. Jackson at Belle Meade, in Tennessee. Besides The Pannier, she sent Henry Wattersoo to the races. Mr. Jennings has a bunch of smart two-year-olds in the string lie brought from California, and he expects them to be getting busy, now that Pretend has broken the Ice. It is reasonably certain that Mr. Jennings will take !i subscription in the Saratoga Special this season.
