Including the Harold Stakes, one of Kentuckys oldest fixtures, served lo bring out a large attendance at I.atonia today. Fine weather prevailed for the first time in many days.. Nineteen layers were in line, Frank Bain being one of the newcomers. Speculation sheared an increase, but the same tightness of «!ds prevailed as hitherto. Woodford and Fizers Eye white scored an Impressive victory In the Harold Stakes. Jack Straw and Ben K. Sleet were withdrawn from the list of starters, but the adding of Short Order left nine to contest the race, worth 1,685 to the winner. Because of his recent showing. Eye White had a host of supiiortors and a large stable commission was likewise placed on him. lie was Installed favorite, with Joe Morris and Donau next in order of odds. The start was marred by Shorl Orders attempt to hart. With consequent inter fere nee to all the oliiers except Eve White. The Fad and Topland. The first named pair went Into a long lead, but The Fad finally succumbed, allow ing Eye White to draw away in the stretch and win as his rider pleased. Joe Morris was a long time in recovering from the mishap at the start, but. when fully settled in his stride for the stretch drive, came with a rusli that carried him bv Donau Into second place in the last few strides. Donau ran a good race despite a rough trip. The luggest upset of the meeting came with the running of the second race, when Daintv Ha sac, at prohibitive nlds. was iKaten by Tom Hayward. re eently purchased from II. G. Bedwell by Nugent Bros. Dainty Dame did not show her customary dash and allowed Tom Hayward to lead her from Start to finish. It Is barely possible that Daintv Dames early speed has been dulled by her fre Bjaent mud racing of late. The mile and a furlong handicap went to John E. McMillan, the favorite. The Minks was pressing him ejaaety near the end. hut fell away in the closing strides. Gliding Belle Iiad little opposition from Nadzu for third. The oiiening race went to Relleview after a spirited struggle to down Huerfano. It reouired Powers best efforts to land Belleview. and he might not have done so but for almost throwing Meadow grass at the stretch turn when the latter was making a strong bid. Romp followed up his previous triumph bv taking the fifth race in a canter from eleven other platers. The closing race went to Palainon. well hacked bv his stable, connections. Some sharp price practice-; were indulged in bv some of the layers in quoting prices on the race, and Frank Bain accepted a wager f 9 on Palnmon at odds of 15 to 1 before he reallzi-d that le was out of line. G. Keif will depart for New York tomorrow, taking his entire string of racers and Iockey Page with bim. Maltbie will be transferred to Saratoga after his arrival in New York and will be rested up until the opening of the Saratoga meeting. Water Lake, whose disappointing showing vester day occasioned adverse comment, was excused from starling this afternoon on account of injuries to his legs sustained in yesterdays race. His owner showed a veterinarians certificate to the officials, on the strength of which he was withdrawn. While being exercised Miss Alert, from J. It. Res peas stable, fell heavily and rolled over her rider when a defective girth on the saddle broke. Lillie Turner was badly kicked while at the post in the last race, and this circumstance accounted in a measure for her poor showing. Many owners who have PMSj racing at Fort Worth and Houston are desirous of shipping here, and have requested stable room.
