M. L. SCHWARTZ IDEA OF THE DERBY. New York. June 17. — Concerning Sir Martins running in the English Derby. M. L. Schwartz, who witnessed the decision of the race, has this to say: "Sir Martin was m perfect condition before the start. I looked htinover in the paddock and he seemed to have wintered well. I did not ask any questions concerning his fitness. He made such a handsome appearance I knew he must be fit. He rather surprised me when he broke in front, but I was not surprised when Skeets Martin took him up a bit and let other horses make the pace. Sir Martin ran splendidly until he stumbled rounding Tattenhaui Corner and unseated Martin. 1 cannot say for certain that he would have won If he had made the turn safely, for he had half a mile to go. but he seemed to have a lot of energy In reserve and. familiar as I was with his stretch running proclivities. I would not have taken 95 per cent, for my bet before the accident. Sir Martin went to his knees when lie stumbled. I saw that distinctly. •Minoru. the kings horse and the winner. Is a little fellow, rather light of bone, but he has a tine turn of speed and is as courageous as Sir Martin himself. He was a little behind Sir Martin and on the rail wiien the American horse came to grief. I would like very much to see Sir Martin and Minoru come together again. I lielieve I would hack Sir Martin because he is an American horse, but Mr. Winans would have no cinch." Mr. Schwartz has a fine weanling by Adam, out of Naughty Lady at William S. Faiishawes Silver Brook Farm in New Jersey. He will engage the youngster iu such future races as close this season. Far West has been ordered up from New Jersey to the races. John Miller, the man who has handled him successfully for the Schwartzes for three seasons, will train him again. Far West lias learned something of jumping in New Jersey and Charles Schwartz expects to ride him in the hunting field next fall.
