BOOKMAKERS ACQUITTED AT T0B0NT0. Cases of Woodbine Layers Dismissed Because They Were Acting Within the Law. Toronto. Ont.. June 22. — Magistrate Kingsford has dismissed the eases against Jake Saunders and the half bundled other bookmakers charged with conducting a common gaming place at the Woodbine track. Notwithstanding that the prosecution declared its ability to prove that Saunders occupied the same position on the track in laving odds day by day during the progress of the woodbine meeting, the judges ruled that under the Ontario law-no conviction could he obtained, as no gaming "place had been maintained. The attorney for the defense admitted that betting went on at tile Wood bine track and the matter resolved itself into a question of law with the result that the cases against the bookmakers utterly collapsed.
