GBAVESEND MEETING WILL CLOSE TODAY. Scene of New York Bacing Shifts to Sheepshead Tomorrow — Some Good Suburban Trials. New York. June 22. — Tomorrow will be the closing day of the Brooklyn Jockey Clubs spring meet ing and Thursday the scene of racing will shift to Sh.epshead Bay. It was thought that an extra day of racing would lie provided for today, lint Philip Dwyer decided otherwise. The meeting lias been Hticessftil without question and attended by a better class than ever before. The Brooklyn Jockey club probably hasnt lost much if any money if, indeed, It has not made something this year. George Odoms recent acquisition. Follie Levy, ran away one mile and a half at top speed during exercise this morning. The former Jennings two-year-old was timed the last half in the extraordinary time of 51 seconds. T. C. McDowells Suburban candidate. King s Daughter, looking very light, was on the track today and was given slow exercise. A. Garson left today for Hamilton with four horses — Hnddv. Grania. Replenish and a two-year-old filly. Grania worked a mile in 1:42 previous to her departure. Ardte. a Suburban eligible, worked a mile and an eighth at Sheepshead Bay today. The fractional time was as follows: 24. 30;, 4!l, 1:01, 1:14. 1:27, 1:401. 1:54. Fllz Herbert went the same distance in 1:89, pulling up. His fractionate were: 23, 37. 49jf. Im, lilt, l:2!lt, 1:42s. l:5t . Fayette went six furlongs in 1:13. with trainer Madden frantically waving the boy back the last furlong. Butwell was up and the weight carried was in the vicinity of US pounds. It was generally voted a marvelous display of speed. Race track folk were surprised to learn that Woodford Clay, winner of the Astoria Stakes, refused to follow the custom of giving a banquet because of the small value of the money prize. "I gave a dinner when Kentucky Beau won the Waldorf Stakes." said Mr. Clay, "and it cost me over MH and the money today does not amount to that sum. I Hii hardlv be expected to give a dinner under the circumstances." Mr. Clay Is in error as to the net value of the stakes. It is .20O besides a plate worth 00. With one stake for two-year-olds down for dec! sion. the most evenly balanced ami satisfactory looking card of the Gravesend meeting is provided lor race goers on its closing day. Weather indications, however, are unfavorable and the track may be muddy.
