INNOVATION AT SARATOGA. Saratoga, N. Y., August 4. The Saratoga Association this year went to lengths hitherto not attempted in its efforts to elevate the social tone of the meeting in progress here. The clubhouse members list was scrutinized as never was a list before, and every bookmaker, no matter how high his standing among tio craft, was politely but firmly told that this year there were no clubhouse badges for sale, so far as he was concerned. Early in the morning of the opening day those members of the old Metropolitan Turf Association who for years have b-en in the habit of frequenting the clubhouse enclosure, when not busy in the ring, strolled into tlie ollice of the association for the usual badge admitting t hem within the club members enclosure. When they wen? told that they would have to enjoy the races from the grandstand this season tli-re was sutlicieiit torrid language used to raise the temperature of the ollice several degrees. Appeals to this and tiiat ollicial of tlie association were in vain, and several of the old-time leaders of the ring stayed away from the track entirely in their disgust. Others not desired were quietly informed that clubhouse badges were not for sale.
