: THE OCEAN HANDICAP WINNERS : It often happens that the intent of the founders of a stake race is never fully met. In the case of the Ocean Handicap it was hoped that it would be a race in which the mile record would be established and held, yet none of its winners has ever come close to a record in its running. It is not because it has not been contested by fast horses for, in respect to speed. Domino, Henry Young, Briar Sweet, Imp, Voter and Hcrmis have no superiors in the history of American racing and the other winners of the race could, every one of them, get over the ground at a rapid rate, 1:38 by Ten Candles, Tipton and Half Sovereign is the best that has ever been done in it. In its entries this year the Ocean has great speed possibilities, with at least six horses fully capable of breaking the mile record if at their best and, with conditions favorable, they being Uncle, Maskette, Jack Atkin, Fitz Herbert, King James and Olambala.
