Jockey Lycurgus has been suspended at Vancouver, B. C. for unsatisfactory riding. J. Mcintyre. McIIale. Booker and Pickett are among the jockeys that will ride at Hawthorne Monday. Police Inspector OBrien has excluded several persons from Sheepshead Bay track who were suspected of violating the betting law. The National Steeplechase and, Hunt Association has granted training, licenses to George M. Odom. W. G. Wilson arid Michael Philbln and a Jockey license to T. Taylor. At the recent meeting of the stewards of the Jockey Club, -an application from .Nat Ray for a trainers license was laid on the table on recommendation of the license committee. Andrew Miller has been appointed by the Jockey Club as its steward at the coming meeting of the Brooklyn Jockey Club at Jravesend. Philip J. Dwyer will be in the stand with Mr. Miller. Barleythorpe did not start In the Flatbush yesterday because James Gaffney decided that he needed a chance of recovering from the rough treatment to which he was subjected in the Futurity. Former jockey Willie Martin, who has been in disfavor on the eastern turf, has applied to the Jockey Club for a riding license. The application lias been referred to the license committee. Olambala qualified for a place in the Wilson stud when be defeated King James In the Twin City Handicap. The president of the Saratoga Association has determined to put the Ornus stallion at the head of his breeding establishment in Kentucky as soon as he Is through with racing. A. Henry Higginson, the Boston sportsman, who recently purchased the fencers Sir Wooster and Ballacalla from Coldnel Robert Neville, of Virginia, has been elected a member of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. Mr. Higginson will hereafter take an active part in steeplechasing and It is likely that he may increase his stable.
