NOTES OF THE TURF. AV. H. Karrick has shipped the horses of F. U. Hitchcock and H. IC. Knapp from Long Island to Pimlico. Matt Allen has purchased Shaekleton. a three-year-old chestnut colt by Watercress St. Orion, from James it. Haggin. Richard Ilavey, who served as official timer at the Oakland track of the New Calirornhi Jockev Club, has nearly lost his sight. He was identified with tlie thoroughbreds aiid trotters for over two-score years. He rode in many of the oid-time fonr-mile races, but in recent years he was best known as a reinsinan. He drove Palo Alto horses for several seasons, and had conspicuous success witli sev eral of the stars bred by the late Senator Stanford. Air. Ilavey had intended to return to the harness sport this season, but his alliiction will prevent him from doing so.
