ROCKAWAY HUNTS NEW COURSE New York April 12 The opening of the new steeplechase course of the Kockaway Hunting Club at Hewlett Bay Hewlett L I will start amateur racing in tho oast for the season of 1013 arid will take place on Saturday April 2li For many years cthis popular steeplechase meeting has been held at Cedarhurst L L on what Is known as the White Farm but part of that property having IKXII dis iwsed of to a real estate company the Rockaway Hunting Club has abandoned the old course and through the generosity of Cnrlton Macy the club bus teen able to secure for its annual meeting a beautiful stretch of country at Hewlett Bay Park This property lying about two miles from the Rockaway Hunting Club and selected by the race 00 mi nit toe is so situated that a course approxima ¬ ting two miles long has teen laid out and all the jumps can be seen from the club enclosure The going could not bo better and is wonderfully adapted for stecplochasing This course is part of the country that was hunted over by the Rockaway Hounds until the hunting was given up there and was always one of the favorite runs There will be a iiost and rail course and 11 regulation course for tin hunters The club enclosure overlooking the start and finish will he situated oji a small hill commanding a view of the entire course courseThe The card this year is one that should prove attrac ¬ tive to the racing fraternity anil will consist of three steeplechases two for hunters and an ojien steeplechase a mile and a half race for hacks and hunters an open Hat race at a mile and a race of half a mile for galloways gallowaysThe The race committee consists of Philips B Thomp ¬ son Woodward Itahcock Arthur W Poiiree P 15 VOXH and Tliouuis F White who are making every effort to bring about one of the best meetings of the year
