THOROUGHBRED HUNTERS AT MONTREAL MONTREALMontreal Montreal Quo April 12 In recent years admir ¬ ers of hunters have turned their attention more lib ¬ erally towards the development of thoroughbreds as addle horses and hunters Not so many years agi a thoroughbred hunter was a rare thing while today many can be seen on the bridle paths In and around Montreal Within the past few seasons the com petitions in the classes for thoroughbred hunters have become keener and a gradual increase in the numbers shown has been made from time to time timeA A year ago then1 was a substantial increase in the entries for the Horse Show over the previous season while this spring the number doubtless will ugain lie added to making the class a harder one to win In 1 H the coniietiton was won by Klinhurst ex ¬ hibited by Hon Clifford Sifton he defeating his stable companion Stay Away Eimhurst is perhaps as nearly perfect a type of thoroughbred hunter as will be found anywhere and during his career Jn the show ring has carried off many ribbons ribbonsLast Last spring Elmlinrst repeated his victory of the previous year by defeating a larger and perhaps superior lot Fifteen were shown out of an entry of twenty Dictator owned by Major Joseph Kllgour of Toronto being second with Empyrean owned iv Hon Clifford Sifton third Out of the twenty en tries made ten of them came from the stables of local owners showing thi Interest in this class of horses for limiting puriwsos on the island of Mon ¬ treal
