PARI-MUTUELS TO SUPPLANT BOOKMAKING ON ALL IMPORTANT CANA-. DIAN TRACKS IN 1915. DATE SCHEDULE FOR 1914 ARRANGED v , . , j. Toronto, Ont., November 1. The Canadian Racing Associations committee met here Thursday and disposed of some matters of great moment to the sport. Racing dates for 1014 were allotted and a decision was arrived at to substitute the pari-mutucl system of betting for bookmaking in 1913 at all tracks under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Racing Associations that do not previously install the system. The dates assigned for next season are as follows: Ontario Jockey Club, Toronto, Ont. Saturday. May 23 to Saturday, May :i0. Montreal Jockey Club, Montreal. Saturday, May ."0 to Saturday, June 5. Dorval Jockey Club, Montreal. Monday. June 8 to Monday, June 13. Counaught Park Jockey Club, Ottawa. Tuesday, June 10 to Tuesday, June 23. Hamilton Jockey Club, Hamilton. Thursday. June 25 to Thursday. July 2. Niagara Racing Association, Fort Erie. Saturday, .nily 4, to Saturday, July 11. Windsor Jockey Club, Windsor. Wednesday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 22. Hamilton Jockey Club, Hamilton. Monday, July 2T to Monday, August Niagara Racing Association, Fort Erie. Wednesday. August 5. to Wednesday, August 12. Windsor Jockey Tub, Windsor. Saturday. August 13, to Saturday, August 22. Connaught Park Jockey Club. Ottawa. Wednesday, August 20, to Wednesday, Sept. 2. Montreal Jockey Club, Montreal. Saturday, Sept. 5, to Saturday, Sept. 12. j Dorval Jockey Club, Montreal. Monday, Sept. 14, to Monday, Sept. 21. Ontario Jockey Club. Toronto. Saturday, Sept. 10, to Saturday, Sept. 20. The schedule of dates follows the same general arrangement as in recent seasons, the opening and closing being awarded to the Ontario Jockey Club, and the first movement being to the east. The new mile track of the Dorval Jockey Club at Montreal had to be provided for, in addition to the Connaught j Park Jockey Club at Ottawa, included this year for the first time. The fact that Victoria Dav will fall on Sunday, and that the Woodbine meetiug is bound by all traditions and precedents to include that holiday, forestalled an early opening. It was found imiiossiblc between May 23 and September 2i; to give absolutely clear dates to all of the seven clubs on the roll, even though the intervals of open intervening time were generally curtailed. Such conflict as there is in the allotment was a matter of agreement, and concerns only Woodbine and Montreal. There is an overlap with Blue Bonnets of one day in tlie spring and two days with Dorval in tlie fall. -Montreal is well provided for so far as the dates go, Blue Bonnets having four Saturdays and two holidays, the Kings Birthday and Labor Day. The last-named fell to Windsor for several years, and this year was in Connaught Parks time. Hamilton has two Saturdays and two holidays, Domiulon Day and Civic Holiday. In order to secure this latter date, Hamilton gave up the preceding Saturday, August 1, which becomes the only unoccupied Saturday of the season. As stated, Dorval is the only new club to be included in the circuit for next year. The anticipation that London would be ready for a place in the circuit was not realized, though there is still a possibility of a short meeting at that point next autumn. The London Jockey Club has organized, and has 125 acres of splendid land advantageously situated .on Dundas street, London East, but the transportation question is not yet settled to the clubs satisfaction. The Grand Trunk and C. P. R. main lines are close by. and the city street car system terminates about three-quarters of a mile away. When the desired lines are built, London will be added to the recognized racing points in Canada and that may Ik? accomplished berore the end of next season. The general installation of the mutuel svstera to replace bookmaking was fixed by resolution "for 1915. though the mutuels will be the sole method of speculation at- at least three tracks next year Woodbine, Blue Bonnets and Dorval.
