WELL SATISFIED WITH KENTUCKY TRLP. Charleston, S. c., November 1. Fred Auerbacb, associate manager of Palmetto Park, which is owned and operated by the Charleston Fair and Racing Association, returned this week from a trip to Latonia. whore he spent several days in securing nominations for the twenty-three stakes to be decided during the coming winter meeting at the lotal track, beginning December 1. That Mr. Aucrbachs mission was successful is evidenced by the large number of entries that he brought back with him. Practically every stable of prominence racing on the Kentucky circuit this tail is represented in the list. Since his arrival here Mr. Aucrback has been busy compiling the nominations so that the exact number 111 every stake can be determined as soon as possible. This, however, will take some time, as the list from the Laurel track is exceedingly large and there were still a few more to come from other places in Kentucky when Mr. Auerbacb left. "The horsemen racing in Kentucky were exceedingly liberal in nominating their horses for our stakes," said Mr. Auerbacb, "and from the list of nominations it can be , seen that the best horses 111 training in the country will race here the coming winter. The two-year-old nominations were unusually heavy, and the Hampton, the Aiken, the Calhoun and tbe Pine Forest Inn Stakes, all of which are for two-year-olds of 1914, have some well bred juveniles named to go. The nominations to the Palmetto Derby were plentiful and include some cracks. Several owners announced their intention of bringing their Kentucky and Latonia Derby ellgibles here to run in our Derby and the race this year will be the best in its brief historv. From what I could gather while in Kentuckv it seems as though many persons from that section of the country are going to spend the coming winter in Charleston and all are enthusiastic over the prospects of witnessing excellent racing." Mr. Auerbacb will devote the greater part of his time between now and the opening of the meeting to superintending the improvements about the racinir plant. He will have everything in readiness when the advance guard of horses and turfmen arrive here from Latonia November IS, and already much of the stable room has been assigned. The course is in excellent condition right now for horses to work over. That the coming winter will bo one of the mildest in the history, of this locality is the opinion of the local weather sharps. Since the first winter of racing here ideal weather has been the rule and the cool spells have been few and far between. Frank J. Bruen. assistant to General Manager ."lohn Hacbmeister at the Latonia and Douglas Park tracks, will look after the Interests of the local course in Kentucky until he leaves the Blue Grass state 011 the special train for this city November 17. He will serve as auditor during the meet lug here.
