EXPECT PAND0RIN A AND CLUBS TO v MEET. " Winners of Important Lcnj Distance Races Likely to Compete for Latonia Cup. Cincinnati, O.. November 1. Next Saturday, at the Latonia track, the ,000 Latonia Cup, for thrce-jear olds and upwards, two miles and a quarter, will be decided. This rich stake is the last of the long distai.ee events which have been the outstanding features of the sport this fall in Keutuckv. It is u be run on the last day of the Latonia meeting, when racing in this state will come to an end for the season. Manager John , nachmeister has set great store on the success of the Latonia Cup. He desires to annually make it the feature race of the autumn meeting at this track and keep it to the standard of popularity enjoyed by the. Louisville; Cup, two miles, at Douglas Park, and the Kentucky Endurance Stakes, four miles, at Churchill Downs. It is his aim to have it regarded in connection with La-tonias fall meetings as of as much moment as the Latonia Derby, which is the big event of the spring meetings. The cup donated by the Latonia Jockey Club to the winner of this event as a trophy is one of the most beautiful pieces of plate ever offered for a iace in this state. To manufacture it called for an expenditure of over 500 by the Latouiu Jockey Club and the manufacturer has spared no effort to make it a trophy of most beautiful design and ornate workmanship. On the front of the cup are embossed the letters in gold, "Trophy. Latonia Cup, 2i,4 Miles, 1!13." Beneath this are the words "Won by," followed by a space for the insertion of the name of the winner and the time of the race. The cup is enclosed in a magnificent glass case, which shows off its beauty and at the same time protects It. On the far side of the cup is a bas-relief, embossed, representing the thrilling finish that is so often seen on the race track, when several horses reach the winning line noses apart. As a setting for this great event. Secretary E. W. Maginn has in preparation a brilliant card of overnight races for next Saturday afternoon, and in these races many of the stars now still in training will appear. The requests for box reservations indicates an enormous attendance at Latonia on this, tlie closing day of the meeting and it Is believed that tlie throng that will pass through the gates upon this occasion will be an autumn record breaker for this course. It is probable that the Latonia Cup will bring about a meeting of the Kentucky Endurance Stakes winner. Pandorina, anil Clubs, winner of the Louisville Cup. Pandorina has not raced since her Endurance Stakes victory at Churchill Downs and Clubs has not faced the barrier since he won tlie Louisville Cup at Douglas Park in Kentucky record time for two miles. Both are in training for this event. Another long distance performer that may lower the colors of both Pandorina and Clubs in the Latonia Cup is Samuel R. Meyer, which in recent races has displayed a liking for a considerable route of ground. Ho also has speed lind with jockey R. Goose in the saddle is believed to have a winning chance. Jockey Gross has been engaged to ride Pandorina in the Latonia Cup as a consequence of his succcess with the filly In the four-mile race at Louisville. Jockey Disunion, who rode Clubs to victory in the Louisville Cup. will have the mount on him here next Saturday. Other eligibles likely to start include Any Port, which will be ridden by jockey J. McCabo. and Marshon. with E. Martin in the saddle. Dan Lehan has been racing the old gelding Sir Catesby with tlie Latonia Cup in view and if the son of Sir Dixon starts he will likely bo piloted by the western rider. II. Wocds. Just Red is another eligible, as well as Cousin Puss. Obert probably will have the mount on Just Red if he goes and C. Van Duscn is likely :to ride Cousin Puss. The decision of the Latonia Cup will come as a fitting finale to-one of tlie most remarkable fall seasons of racing ever held at this course. With anything like good weather in the early part of the meeting the patronage would have reached record breaking proportions. Even under the adverse conditions that have prevailed, the attendance has been remarkably good. The betting has been phenomenal and goes to show how the present system of wagering on horses by the pari-mutuel method has grown in popularity with the people of this vicinity.
