Cochran Wins Three Races — 0,000 Vulcain Yearling Makes Racing Debut. ♦ Havre de Grace, Md., April 21*. — Samuel Boss furnished the winner of the first two year-old stake feature to be run this year, when his i|s-r-man filly OrmoiHUt. captured the Aberdess Stakes at Havre de Or.ice this afternoon. Tin- Aberdeen was worih Sl.."9." to the winner and resulted in a sterling struggle from flagfall to the finish, with Ormonda showing the way. closely followed by tie-Whitney representative, Presson. The latter was repeatedly nsaned by the winner throughout tea test eighth, or she might have won. Only a iris • separated the first two at the end, with the others trailing many lengths back. William Midgley. the latt.r saddling three winners, one of which was ridden by his own son. There was considerable interest in the first appearance under racing colors of J. W. McClellands Vulcain — Rose Tree II. colt. The Wanderer, which was one of the two readings that sold for 0. nn at the Saratoga auction sales last summer. Tie-Wanderer made his debut in the opening dash and displayed keen speed, racing into a big early lead, but tired at the end as if short and lost the verdict hy a nose to Es-iuiniau. The Vulcain colt mide a good impression and this r.ic*- should improve him. i. A. Cochran scored his first vierory of tho fSST when his Lmrlish-bred filly Brooatelle gained a hard earned decision over Hidden User and June Birr in the second race. Brooatelle raced on the outside all the way. was forced wide in the stretch, but finished with speed and courage to get up iu the final stride. • The third race provided a thrilling finish witii Col. Balantine and has. Iannell fighting it out all through t lie last eighth of a terrific closing drive, the former prevailing by the smallest of margins. BUGHOUSE AN EASY WINNEK. Bughouse made it a double for t». A. Cochran when he led all tho way iu the fourth race to win in easy fashion, the favorite. Meliora. finishing a I»oor fourth. Bughouse was ridden by A. Midgley. son of the i»opiilar Cochran trainer, and it was the second mount for this promising young rider. The third success of the day for the Coehgsa stable came in the sixth race when Nepperluin, a Preakness candidal heal Jack Hare Jr. in the hand leap of five and a half furlongs. Nepperlmn had a big pull in the weights and was lucky to beat the game Applegate raicr. which tired under his heavy basest after having raced in the lead. The Ctesteg race was won by Oundr ary. which was favored by the going, and the elimination ••• the favsrite.Waterproof, which fell soon after the start. The liatermen were extremely busy at Havre ds Bran on Saturday. Two claims wen- put in for Yodelir.g. one by Fred Musante am! another by his owner.- II. .1. Morris, who retained the horse for ,005.
