KING ALFONSO A SUCCESSFUL TURFMAN Names and Breeding of Twenty-six Horses which Will Race for Him This Year, King Alfonso races as the Due de Toledo and ho has been successful, figuring during the last two years well up in the list of winning owners, and this is the more satisfactory inasmuch, as the breeding stud he is forming- lias not yet had time to produce progeny to appear on a race course. All the horses which have carried his colors he has had to purchase. His majesty lias been fortunate in this respect in having as his master of the horse M. Adolphe de Neuter, well-known in Belgium, France. Germany, Spain and England. The writer lias known Adolphe de Neuter for twenty years or more, and what he does not know about continental racing, or racing in England, is negligible. He has discretion, tact and business capacity, for De Neuter has never been the man to pay 1.000 guineas for a horse when he could get it for 100 guineas. The following is a list of horses the King of Spain has in training at Madrid: Le Bourget. 5, by Delaunay La Bidasos. Torobahel. 5. by Gros Papa Prunelle. Beau. 4, by Sea Sick La Belle II. Brabant, 4, bv Marsan Bntxelles II. Dole, 4, by De Viris Dolette. Kvohe. A, by Sea Sick Sauge Pourpreo. French, 4, by Presto II. Felicienne. Olympic, 4, by Sea Sick Penelope II. Bernadette II., 3, by Nimbus Bernima. La Coniedie, 3, by RIre mix Larmes Cyprine. Ijorrt Winner, 3, by Tnrquin Lady Woods. Mauiaque. 3, by Rire mix Larmes Magdala. Meuthe. 3, by Bachelors Button Rose de-Mai. Montmirail. 3, by Bonspiel Melton Star. Reine de Navarre, 3, by Cedrus Queen of France. Scorpe. 3, by MacDonald II. Udor. Souvenir Loyal. 3, by Gorgorito Comedla. Sumatra, 3. by Gorgorito Spring Bud. Abyssinia, 2, by Mlutagou Abyss. Bersel. 2. by Bachelors Button Bruxelles II. Decldee, 2, bv Bachelors Button Gaillarde II. Mistake, 2, by Littleton Miss Puff, Raphael II.. 2, by Philipe II. Vigee Lcbmn. Romaze, 2, by Gorgos Reyna. Ronce. 2. by Goigos Rose de Mai. St. Flrmin, 2, by Winkfields Pride Ste. Rosie. It will he noticed that the majority are English-bred, and even those bred in France are by English sires, such as Gorgos. which won the Two Thousand Guineas for the late Arthur James; Winkfields Pride, which won u sensational Cambridgeshire and . tho Lincolnshire Handicap; Bonspiel. Bachelors Button, Delaunay, Mintagon, etc. None of these horses, which have done such good service at St. Sebastian and on the other race courses of Spain, cost much money. The royal colors "mauve, scarlet belt" were registered In England in 1917, but they have never been carried in this country. Nor has King Alfonso yet been elected to the Jockey Club. These things remain for Ascot. London Sportsman.
