CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Audience, Clarence II. Mackays famous old mare, will be mated this year with Broomstick. Audience produced Whisk: Broom II. to the cover of Broomstick in 1907, and it is undoubtedly in the hope of her duplicating the success of the former mating that she is being sent to his court again this year. Broomstick is the highest priced horse standing in the country, his fee being ,500. Newton Bennington, one of Americas foremost turfmen a decade or so ago and who has been connected with the British ministry of shipping during this countrys participation in the war, is back in New York longing for the resumption of his favorite sport. The greatest horse that ever carried the Bennington silks vvas the famous mare Beldame, whose racing qualities Mr. Bennington had leased from August Belmont. Going outside of Castleton-bred stallions for the first time in her distinguished career as a breeder. Miss Elizabetii Daingerfield paid Pataud a pretty compliment last week by booking two of her best mares to that rising young sire. John E. Madden is another who is confident that Pataud is one of the coining sires of the country, having lwoked twelve mares to him this season. Madden sold Pataud to Herbert J. Brown of Portland. Me., and the stallion is now standing at J. W. Townsends GraeelanJt Farm.
