1 1 RECORD OF A STABLE OF LAST YEAR WHICH INCLUDED THE BEST I STEEPLECHASER OF 1918 IN ITS LIST OF WINNERS I , . : : At one time and another nine horses raced for J. E. Griffith last year, but in effect his was a one-horse stable, so greatly did The. Brook outshine all of his stable comrades in all ways. This jewel of a jumping horse was bred in England by the Duke of Portland and was named Count George. His sire, Troutbeck, won the Doncaster St. Lcger of 1906 for the Duke of Westminster. Last year The Brook was the best steeplechaser in this country. As steeplechasing goes, he is quite a young horse at that brand of racing and, if no accident befalls him, should be better still this year. According to the English-standard lie would not be ripe to take part in such a race as the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase; until a year or two older than he now is. Last year lie won more money than any other steeplechaser in the United States. Bet being the only other jumping horse which gained inclusion in the select list of winners of 0,000 or more. The three-year-old Ballast was the only other inmate of the Griffith stable which won more than ,000, and the. stable account for the year was: Horse. Col. and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d.
