f ML ICQS GRAND FALL MEETING All RECORDS BROKEN IN THE MATTER OF MONEY DISTRIBUTION TO THE HORSEMEN COMMANDER 7 J. K. L. ROSS THE LEADER OF THE MONEY- WINNING TURFMEN A . few days before the opening of the Pimlico meeting the .Staryland Jockey .Ctnh announced that the minimum purse value during the fall racing at Marylands oldest and most popular race course would -be :?l,r.0O instead of . the ,000 annouueed earlier in the fall. The result of this increase was that more money was distributed among the horsemen during the recent meeting than at any preceding one iii the history of the course. The total distribution amounted to 87,T,13, n dally .-average" of 5,228. This liberal policy had its reward in the participation in the racing of the. majority of the most fashionable und pretentions racing establishments of the country- With but few exceptions the star racers of the year were seen in action at one time or another and the fields in a number of the stakes and handicaps Were snch .as are only sewi at Saratoga. Large crowds visited Pimllco dailyf even- during the disagreeable weather that prevailed part of the time. Speculation was of large volume and, altogether, the racing was of the grade expected when so many high-class horses participated. The Maryland Jockey Club offered a number of particularly attractive stake features, richly endowed, ranging in value from 0,000 added down to ,000 added. The- nominations to these events were large .in, number and included the real racing stars of the year. The Bowie Handicap and the Manly Memorial Steeplechase wore the two 0,000 added features. Koyco Rools was the winner of the first-mentioned and Diiettiste captured the Manly, what might be properly called the "blue ribband" of the races through the field in this country. The three Serial Weight-for-Age races fell to the stable of Commander J. K. L. Ross, Billy Kelly winning the first and Sir Barton the other two. The latter-feat brought ,000 additional to the stables coffers, the Maryland Jockey Club offering1 that additional, amount to the horse winning any two of the three races. The newly-established Pjmlico Cup, a two and a quarter mile race, designed to encourage long-distance racing, was won by that s"terlirig racer, Exterminator, considered by many one of the best horses seen on the American turf In many years. -The list of the stake". events run at Pimlico, including their winners .and other details, is asfollows:- - ,.
