HUNTING, FISHING AND SPORT A consignment of lQ.ooo game fish, many of them of good size, was recently brought to Gales-burg, III., in the state fish car and the fish were liberated in Lake llicc and Highland Park Lake. The varieties represented were catfish, blackbass, salmon and crappies. The open season on deer is now on in South Dakota and they are plentiful, many good heads being secured. Grouse are more plentiful than in many years. Friday, October 14, will long be remembered by sportsmen as the greatest day for a duck flight ever known in that country. The quail season is now open in a great many states in the United States and for several ensuing weeks, if the Aveather should prove beneficial, sportsmen will have the opportunity of enjoying some most enjoyable days afield, companioned by a good bird dog or two, in pursuit of the gamy littio Bob White, than which there can be nothing more enjoyable. A sea turtle of the. loggerhead species, said to be the largest brought to that port in fifty years, was landed at rortlnrid. Mb., September 10, from the fishing schooner Fannie Belle. The turtle weighed more than 1,600 pounds, measured nearly seven feet in length and was about four feet across the back. Between the tips of the huge fins the turtle measured twelve feet. Hunters returning from the mountains around Llviiigstou. Mont., state that the big game 1ms come down from the high ranges and the snow makes g"ood tracking. Most of the hunters are successful, many of them securing all the elk and deer allowed by law.
