PAYS 1,000 FOR YEARLING Brother to The Porter Brings Highest Price at Saratoga Sales to Date. SARATOGA, N. Y., August 11. Another improvement in the yearling market was noted Wednesday night at the Fasig-Tipton sale mart on the occasion of the offerings of the Page Brook Stud, owned by Capt. P. M. Walker, whose consignment included the Sweep Ballet Girl colt, a brother of the noted The Porter, owned by Edward B. McLean. The youngsters striking appearance, coupled with the prowess of his brother, caused spirited contention for his possession, and the bidding for a while was general until the 5,000 mark was reached, when it resolved into a four-cornered bidding tilt, "Bud" Fisher, W. B. Jennings. S. C. Hildreth and J. S. Cosden raising each others offers. Jennings dropped out at 9,500 and the famous cartoonist seemed to have the colt bought on his offer of 0,000, but J. S. Cosden bid an additional ,000 and became his possessor. The 1.000 that the colt brought is the highest price of any yearling sold so far at the sales, and will, in all probability, be the record for the year in an open market, though the sales of the next two nights, when the choicest offerings will be put under the hammer, promise splendidly, for there is keen desire for good yearlings. There were twenty colts and fillies in the Page Brook consignment and they realized an aggregate of 1921.sh2,550, au average of ,102.50. In addition to the Page Brook Stud baud there were consignments by Stone and Rucker, J. S. Bar-bee and others, the forty-four going for a grand total of 5,400, a grand average or ,805. The stars, of the Stone and Rucker band were the Sweep Hortensia colt that "Bud" Fisher secured on his bid of ,200 and the Sweep Margaret T. colt that F. J. Kelley became owner of on a similar bid. .T. S. Barbees Sweep Gold Ten colt proved a much-desired animal and he went to G. I. Widener after some sharp bidding for ,000. Another prominent gallery attended the sales and bidding was sharp for all the better offerings. The complete summary of the sale follows: Property of Pago Brook Stud.
