CLOSE IN BLAZE Of GLORY s Blue Bonnets Fall Meeting Most Successful in Its History, i 1 Minata Wins Bartlett McLennan Steeplechase, Feature of Final Days Racing. MONTREAL, Que., September 10. Mrs. F. Ambrose, Clarks popular silks were carried to victory in the Bartlett McLennan Steeplechase Handicap when Minata was returned the winner after a spectacular contest that met the enthusiastic approval of the large crowd in attendance. This race through the field was the stellar attraction of todays excellent program at Blue Bonnets. It was over the two miles and a half course and brought together six of the best jumpers in Canada. Coronado was the one to show the way for the greater part of the contest, but gave way to JIc-Adams on the final turn of the field. Tlie Finigun jumper then drew away into what appeared a winning lead. In the meantime Miuata, after being saved for the first two miles, moved up steadily and quickly passed all but McAdams. He overtook the latter in the last eighth and drew clear nt the end. A different story might have been told had not McAdams fell lame when victory seemed almost certain. After assuming the lead he fenced faultlessly and. holding a two lengths advantage, it appeared all oTer but the shouting when suddenly he was seen to tire and Minata easily passed him. McAdams was quite lame when he pulled up. Sea Talc, which was expected to be a formidable factor in the race, ran out at the eighth jump and Flying Frog lost his rider at the eighteenth. Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the final day-S racing at Blue Bonnets, under the auspices of the Montreal Jockey Club, and the meeting will go down as one of the most successful in the annals of the club. The attendance today was the largest that has ever gathered on a race course in this city. The clubhouse lawns and galleries were crowded with the members and friends who are prominent in the social and financial circles of the city and province. The card, which was one of the best of the meeting, brought together well balanced fields and the racing was of a spirited order, with finishes close and exciting. A mile dash for plater three-year-olds and over began the afternoons entertainment. Thirteen horses faced the barrier and the Thorncliffe Stables Broadview, after leading all the way, just lasted long enough to secure a close decision over Discord, which, with a better start, would undoubtedly have won. MESSINES AN EASY WINNER. .1. K. L. Boss started his recent acquisition, Mes-siues, in the second race and he easily triumphed over a band of good sprinters in a dash of five and a half furlongs. The winner was ridden by tlavcr and came from behind after Last One and Bromelia had tired themselves out setting and forcing the pace to win with speed in reserve. He was the shortest priced winner of the day and his race was quite impressive. Major Parke, after many disappointing failures, was returned the winner of the third race, which was under claiming conditions at three-quarters of a mile. Gantner, who had the mount on the buck of the son of Dick "Welles, sent him to the front with the rise of the. barrier and, emulating his noted daddy, ran his opponents dizzy. The time, l:121f was the fastest for the distance at the meeting. Wraith was second, outstaying Hasten On in the final strides. Star Kealni, carrying the colors of W. Walker, was returned the winner of the handicap, which was carded as the fifth race. It was at a mile and brought together some of the best horses at the track. G. M. Hendries Estero was the pronounced choice and encountered all the bad luck of the race. She was caught flatfooted as the barrier was sprung and. after getting into a contending position in the stretch, stumbled, but recovered and then just lost by Inches. Star Realm was far out of it in the early running, but came fast on the extreme outside and, finishing with great speed, won in the last stride. The time for the race was 1:38. ON THE WAY TO OTTAWA. Sheridan Clark, who has been looking after the shipment of horses from here to Connaught Park, arranged for the consignment to be sent over on three specials.
