DUFFERINS LARGEST CROWD About 12,000 People View Some Interesting Racing at Toronto Half-Mile Track. TOBONTO, Out., September 10. Taking the lead at once Assumption showed the way from start to finish in the seven-eighths of a mile handicap, which was run as the fifth race and served as the feature attraction at Diiffenn Park this afternoon. The Williams and Rorris representative was closely pressed by Murray practically throughout, but at the end scored by a lengths margin. Louis closed with a whirlwind rush on the inside through the stretch and forced Murray to a hard drive to save second place. After Aunt Agnes captured the initial dash with east; and Chantonr the second the talent, experienced much difficulty in locating the winners. The running of the following four races witbnessed the downfall of the favorites, and several of the winners came from unexpected quarters. Bliiebannock provided the prize upset when he took the measure of Military Girl in the third race. He was never headed and returned a dividend of 25 to 1, the largest of the meeting. The closest fight of the afternoon came with the running of the sixth race, in which Charles A. Byrne barely lasted to score by a head margin. He alfo returned a rather liberal dividend, as did Financial Rooster, which, won with much to spare. A half-holiday crowd of over 12,000 packed to capacity all "the available accommodation at the west side course today, despite the intense heat. The infield was again pressed into service and handled the overflow, fully 6, MM viewing the sport from the center inelosure. Tins was probably the largest attendance ever recorded at tills course. Jockey I Chiavetta luckily escaped injury when he was uneateil from Little Niece shortly after the start in the fourth race. The riderless filly continued in the race, greatiy amusing the crowd by finishing a bang-up second. During the running of the second race the veteran performer Red Post suffered a severe cut 011 one of his legs. Military Girl pulled up a trifle lame after run-nin;r the third race. Jockey E. Fator made his initial appearance in the saddle today, but was unplaced on both the Polk Stable horses. Jockey II. Chappell. who rode Pretty Baby, lodged a claim of foitl against E. Pollard "on Bond and C. Duggan, who rode Financial Rooster in the fourth race. The original placing was permit teti to s?and, but both Pollard and Duggan Avert; suspended for the. remainder of the meeting for rough riding.
