PIMLICOS INAUGURAL DAY Maryland Jockey Clubs Racing Begins This Afternoon. Program of Metropolitan Character Offered, with Many Stars of Turf Among Entries. BALTIMORE, Md., October 31. The historical and ever popular Pimlico course will throw open its gates tomorrow for what, it is predicted on all sides, will Ik; the greatest fall meeting in the history of Marylands oldest racing organization. It is a typical metropolitan program that is offered for the opening day, with the Serial Weight-for-Age Race No. 1 as the main attraction. Fifteen wonderfully fast horses are named to contest this feature, and with Trystor, Careful, Dominique, Knob-bie, Smoke Screen, Hilly Kelly, Audacious, Georgie and Billy Mclaughlin included among the probable starters a grand race is in prospect. As a secondary feature the Pikesville Purse, for two-year-olds, will divide attention with the stake event. More than passing interest will be given this contest, as quite a few of the seventeen entries are also eligible to the rich Pimlico Futurity and they will be closely watched tomorrow. J. E. Maddcns unbeaten St. Henry is the overnight choice, hut lie will have no easy time with such as Oil Mtuufc-Itocket, Sedge,- My Play. Alex II. and other good ones among his opponents. The devotees of steeplechasing, which are numbered by the hundreds here in Baltimore and the surrounding communities, have been catered to in a lavish manner. Tomorrow the contest through the field will be the Inaugural Steeplechase, which is for four-year-olds and over, at two miles. Although the field named is much below the best the five carded to start are well matched and a good contest should result. Rain, which fell early this morning and continued with a light drizzle throughout the day, had hut little effect on the going, which was in exceptionally good condition. The quality and numerical strength of horses stabled at the track gives great promise of the meeting developing into one of the best enjoyed by the old hilltop track.
