Owens Orpheus, b. c, 4, by Orby Electra 140 pounds, Gray G There was an immense crowd to view the race, which was run in a heavy mist. A false start delayed the running twenty-five minutes. The real start could not be seen through the mist. Milenko and Leighton put up a fine battle in the last half mile, Milenko gaining the verdict by a short head; half a length separated the second and third horses. Time, 1:53. There were twenty-four starters. Poiret, Mintlcaf and Palomides were left at the post. Abbots Trace was the favorite. He and Orpheus ran well for three-quarters of a mile. Abbots Trace finished eighth. The winners price was 100 to 7, Franklin 20 to 1, Leighton 60 to 1.
