9 GOOD SPORT AT DUFFERIN i TORONTO, Ont, September 7. Close and exciting finishes featured the. racing at Duf-ferin Park this afternoon, the best of which came with the running of the sixth, in which Just Fancy barely lasted to earn the verdict by a nose. Fair and Warmer came from behind in the stretch to earn the decision in a driving finish over the Canadian-breds engaged in the fourth. W. M. Cain scored a double with Arrow Point and Brown Bill, both of which had the speed of their opponents all the lasthaif mile in their respective races. Jockey B. Petzoldt piloted both of the Cain color bearers and consequently carried off the riding honors. J. S. Lavin deposited a claim for Fluzey, but it was disallowed, being 00 short of the ,800 necessary to claim the Walker mare. Rock Silk is on the ailing list at Woodbine Parle with a high fever. Flibbertygibbet was excused from the seventh race today, due to a slight attack of colic. Musito was an absentee, due to a filled foreleg, the result of a cut suffered in his last race here. Jockey A. Arvin suffered a bruised leg, the result of having been kicked while at the post for the fourth race. Judge Peter B. Callen will depart at the conclusion of this meeting for New Kensington Pa., where he will serve as the presiding official of the Allegheny Racing Associations autumn meeting, opening on next Tuesday. Jockey E. Atkinson will leave here tomorrow for Montreal, to ride for J. Kearns at the Dorval meeting. Judge Joseph A. Murphy was an arrival in the city today from Detroit and will fill the position of presiding steward during the Thorncliffe Park meeting. It develops that jockey OMahoney suffered injuries to his spine when his mount. Ravanna, fell here yesterday and he passed a restless night. Trainer J. H. Hynes announced today that D. Brenner will retire from the owners ranks. Hynes has purchased from him the horses Primo, St. Paul, Lady Heart and Chief Sponsor. Royal Gift and Puff Bali will be disposed of privately. A. J. Sansone yesterday claimed Rising Rock from H. Raines for ,200.
