Twenty Years Ago Today C. Kelly rode two winners at Latonia. There was racing at Latonia, Benning and Ingleside. Oddfellow sired two of the winners at Latonia First Attempt and Past Master. Jockey J. Ranch rode four winners at Ingleside, accounting for the last three races in a row. Hand Vice, ridden by McAuliffe, won the steeplechase handicap, the feature race at Latonia. In a field of nine he won easily. Secretary Martin Nathanson of the Lakeside Jockey Club announced officially that "Dick" Rome had been ruled off the turf for life for using abusive and insulting language to judge Hamilton. Several Kentucky breeders were industriously looking over the country for Dan Regan, a horse once owned by John E. Madden, but which had never graduated from the maiden ranks. The reason for their eagerness to secure Dan Regan was that he was a brother to Hastings, the leading stallion.
