Won handily; second and third driving. HOMESTRETCH began somewhat slowly, but had a clear course all the way and gradually improved his position while racing on the outside and, coming fast through the stretch, wore the leaders down and, passing them, won going away. PAY DEAR, in close quarters for the first half mile, finished fast and outstayed VIRGINIUS. The latter began slowly, but closed an immense gap and ran an excellent race. QUARREL, prominent from the start, raced PRINCESSE DOUILLY into defeat and took the lead after entering the stretch, but tired in the final eighth. TURBULENT raced well. LOCH AYR closed up ground from a slow beginning. SYLVAN SPRING was never fully in his stride, meeting with continuous interference. PRINCESSE DOUILLY quit after going a half mile in the lead. TORCHY, lucky and off forwardly, raced into a long lead in the first half and tired in the stretch, but held his lead resolutely under a vigorous hand ride and outstayed FEODOR at the end. FEODOR moved up gamely after entering the .stretch, but began tiring after overtaking the leader. JOSEPH BRANT raced prominently all the way and had no mishaps. RUDDLES made up ground. RUMMEL closed a big gap. P. T. BARNUM showed speed, but tired in the final quarter. The last six at the start began slowly and had little chance afterward. BEST LOVE raced In close pursuit of the leaders under slight restraint until well into the stretch, then moved up gamely and outgamed FLY BY DAY at the end. The latter set a very fast early pace and, saving ground on the turns, responded gamely when called on, but could not withstand the winners challenge. FELSIDE began slowly, but steadily improved her position and, finishing fast, easily outstayed BRILLIANCE through the final eighth. The latter ran weli and had no mistupa, HEELTAPS tired after running a good half mile. MISS MINERVA raced next to the rail all the way, bat was unable to improve her position. PAUL JONES, off forwardly, was taken back on the first turn and saved for three-quarters under restraint, then moved up rapidly on the outside when entering the stretch and, taking the lead, held PRUDERY safe. PRUDERY raced in close pursuit of the leaders and, taking the lead when called on in the stretch, finished gamely when challenged, but was unable to withstand the winners challenge. TUFTER rushed into the lead and showed the most speed to the eighth post, where he tired. SLIPPERY ELM showed speed, but tired in the final quarter. Q-i r7 FIFTH RACE 1 Mile. Nov. 23, 19161:416114. POLLY ANN, inconsistent and racing in vastly improved form, improved her position steadily and, saving ground when entering the stretch, finished fast and wore FAIR PHANTOM down to win in the final stride. FAIR PHANTOM took the lead at once and, setting a good pace under restraint, withstood repeated challenges from EMOTION and drew away in the stretch, but tired slightly in the final twenty yards. EMOTION raced in closest pursuit of the leader nearly throughout and made a game challenge on the stretch turn, but tired in the final eighth. CAREFUL was well ridden and had no mishaps, but could never overhaul the leaders. THIMBLE finished resolutely. PRODIGIOUS was hard ridden. PICNIC, off slowly, was rushed into second place ia the first quarter and forced a fast pace, but tired in the final eighth. MOUNTAIN ROSE II.. under slight restraint in the early running, finished fast and gamely, but could not overtake the winner. LORD HERBERT saved ground on all the turns and was gaining at the finish. NATURAL ran well all the way. KINGS BELLE set the early pace and displayed speed for three-quarters. ROYALLIEU was shufHed back while going to the first turn and closed a big gap. GAZINTA almost unseated her rider at the start, but closed a big gap. LADS LOVE ran poorly.
