CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Desha Dreckinridge, publisher of the Lexington Ky. Herald and owner of a useful stable of race horses, is a visitor in New York. J. O. Keene, who is interested in the promotion of the proposed race track at Ashland, Ky., has returned to his home at Lexington, Ky., after a week of missionary work in New York on behalf of the venture. T. J. Widger, the Irish sportsman, especially distinguished in cross-country racing, died a few days ago at his home, Waterford, Ireland. Mr. Widger owned and rode many good jumpers and took part in several Grand Nationals. The nearest he got to success was in 1883, when Col. Lloyds Downpatrick finished third to Zoedone and Black Prince.
