IMPROVEMENT AT THE DOWNS LOUISVILLE, Ky., November 24. Charles F. Grainger, resident manager of Churchill Downs, is a daily visitor at the course. He is already making preparations for the 1923 Derby, and even this early is in receipt of applications for boxes from persons in various cities. The clubhouse at Churchill Downs is undergoing a remodeling and will be practically a new structure when the work is completed. A new dining room, embracing the present front porch, is being built, while a new porch will be constructed which will afford much more room than the present one. The clubhouse lawn is being extended almost one-sixteenth of a mile toward the seven-eighths post. The areaway from the clubhouse to the grandstand will be covered to protect patrons from adverse weather, while a new entrance will be built for those who journey to the course by automobile. Additional boxes will be erected on the upper floor of the clubhouse. 4
