Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Nov. 25, 1902 There was racing at Ingleside and Benning. Jockey Redfern rode three winners at Benning. John E. Madden, who developed some of J the best horses he has handled at Louisville, is back there in his old stable, wintering some twenty-five yearlings. In the fourth race at Ingleside, in a field of seven horses, three were quoted at 100 to 1 or over in the betting. The race was won by Artevis, owned by G. T. Morris, and paid 3 to 1. Word came from Louisville that there is a large colony of horses wintering there. J. E. Madden has twenty-five yearlings, Edward Corrigan sixty head, including yearlings, Pat Dunne nineteen, Captain S. S. Brown forty-eight and numberous others. There is a strong probability that Kansas City, Mo., which has been so long without a race course, will have two next year, one at Fairmount Park, the other on some suitable tract on the Swope Park Boulevard. Such was the report reaching Chicago today. At a clearing-out sale of the stables of J. E. Seagram and W. Hendrie at Toronto, forty-eighth horses were sold. Thirty-two sold for less than 00, and the highest price paid was 00 for Dalmoor, b. h, by Louis XIII. Lady Dalmeny, by Town Moor. The horses sold were of all ages and included stallions and brood mares, some selling for the paltry sum of 7.50. After the fifth race at Benning had been run and Rgiht and True, owned by A. C. Mc-Cafferty, had been officially declared the winner, A. L. Aste, owner of the Earl of Warwick, which ran second, protested the purse on the ground that Right and True should have carried five pounds more weight under the conditions of the race, as he had won three races and should not have been entered for less than ,500. The stewards entertained the protest and awarded Earl of Warwick the purse. All bets had been paid on Right and True.
