PROMINENT NAMES NAMESFOR FOR RACING CLUB The newly organized Chicago Washington Park Club will not be entirely composed of citizens of Chicago In fact it is under ¬ stood that at least nine of the twentyone members of the board of directors will be prominent business men from various down state cities citiesIn In addition to Arthur Meeker Stanley Field Major Frederic McLaughlin Silas IT Strawn and John Borden named at the time the club was organized it is now said that C H Markham president of the Illinois Central A G Leonard president of the Union Stockyards and Transit Company Otto Lehmann of the Fair Harold Foreman of Foreman Brothers bankers R J Collins former president of the Chicago Athletic As ¬ sociation Garrard Winston attorney and Eugene Byfield of the Sherman Hotel Com ¬ pany are the newest members of the board boardThe The Chicago Washington Park Club was organized to encourage and promote health ¬ ful and clean thoroughbred racing Its first objective will be favorable legislation in the general assembly at Springfield and to secure for Illinois a class of horse racing that will rank with the best in the world worldFirst First draft of the measure for which down state business men as well as the Chicago Washington Park Club will stand sponsor and ask the state solons to act on favor ¬ ably has been made but before it is pre ¬ sented at Springfield every section will be gone over and everything done to make it as near ideal as possible It is intimated that this bill will contain all the best fea ¬ tures of the Kentucky and Maryland laws as well as some entirely new ideas that are expected to meet with general approval
