SETTING SUN CANTERS » — Takes the Bowie Stake Race Without Any Trouble. . ♦ Reparation Defeats Broomster in the Second Main Race — Ramshackle Wins for Whitney. ♦ BOWIE, Md.. April 7.— Setting Sun amply verified his victory in the ,000 Inaugural Handicap in the Capitol Handicap today. It was a seven-eighths dash and the son of Olambala and Sunburst was giving away weight to every other starter. At the end he was three lengths clear of The Clown and Kulalia was third. Seldom has there been a better program run off at the Southern Maryland track and seldom has there been a larger crowd on the grounds. The day was summery in its warmth, the track at its best and the sport worthy of the immense crowd. In addition to the Capitol Handicap there was the Mid-Cities Handicap for older horses that brought victory to Reparation, from the stable of Joseph E. Davis. The two-year-old race of the day brought together a band of promising fillies and the Parkway Purse, at a mile and seventy yards, was worthy of the feature position on almost any ordinary program. Seven went to the post in the Capitol Han-dicip and of these two were saddled for the Audley Farm Stable by Kay Spence, while B. B. Jones, one of the owners of the racing establishment, was on hand to see them race. These were The Clown and Resting Time. Others in the field were Lady Myra, Poor Sport and Vennie. KASY FOR SETTING SUN. Little time was lost at the barrier and as it rose Stutts rushed Resting Time into the lead, it being her duty to make pace for The Clown. The others were in close order and The Clown brought up the rear, but well lapped. This close order was maintained through the backstretch, but at the half»-mile ground Pool rushed The Clown up on the outside and for an instant it seemed he would race to the front, but he could not quite make it and there was no material change in racing positions until suddenly Setting Sun sho* out of the bunch and Abel rushed him into a good lead. The others were still in close order, but the son of Olambala had gone away from them so readily that the race was won before the stretch was reached. From there it was no trick for Setting Sun to hold his lead and he was still three lengths to the good at the finish and racing easily. Kulalia had come away from the others slightly on the stretch turn and she was making a hard fight for second place until inside the last eighth, where The Clown, ceming again, caught her and went on to take second place by a length. Poor Sport was fourth, Vennie fifth, Lady Myra sixth and Resting Time, tiring from her early paeemaking, a distant last. Copper Demon proved a repeater when he came back with a good race to win the mile and seventy yards Parkway Purse from Bygone Days and Top Sergeant. Others in the order of the finish were Episode, Rouleau and Dermis Kemble. COLA ■ DO DELAYS MATTERS. There was a long delay at the post in the Mid-Cities Handicap, for which Colando was chielly to blame. Then, when the barrier was released he would not go and was left there when he wheeled. Another unfortunate was Monastery, for he was pinched off and knocked out of contention in the first sixteenth. Broomster was first to show in front and Kummer sent him into a good lead and then took him under slight restraint while making the pact; fast- Reparation readily drew away from the others and was easily second and four lengths before Rockminister when the first eighth post was reached. James F. 0*Hara was showing the way to Tippity Witehet and Monastery was a distant follower, by reason of interference. Broomster appeared to be going along easily in his good lead. But Repaiation was racing whh a long and strong stride and after leaving the backstretch began to gradually close the gap that separated him from the Whitney gelding. Rockminister had surrendered third place to James F. OHara, and it was apparent there that Tippity Witehet would play no part in the finish. Kummer still had a good hold of Broomster as he swung for home and was evidently afraid to do anything else with the chicken-hearted son of Broomstick and Spun Class. By this time Mcl-ane had called on Reparation and, stride by stride, he drew up on the bay and, passing him quickly, won going away. The first victory of the eastern season for the Whitney colors came in the first race today, a dash of a half mile. Ramshackle, under a good ride by Clarence Kummer, beat Idle Thoughts, while For Keeps finished third. Bamra, a recent winner at the meeting, wheeled completely around at the start and ran Uie wrong way of the track-
