JEFFORDS STABLE OF 1923 BALTIMORE, Md.. April 7.— Stalls have been bedded at Havre de Grace for the stable of Walter M. Jeffords of Philadelphia, which will arrive here today or tomorrow. These Jeffords racers, sixteen in number, wintered at Samuel D. Riddles place in Worcester County, Maryland, where Man o War tiained in the spring of 1920. Eleven of thtm are two-year-olds. The others are horses of mature years. One of the Jeffords three-year-olds. Miss Smith, a home-bred daughter of George Smith — Doria, by Ogden. was nearly a first-class two-year-old. The failure of Mr. Jeffords to nominate Miss Smith for the Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby was the occasion of considerable surprise. At Belmont Park last fall Miss Smith discovered some ability as a long-distance runner. Ap-; parently it is the intention of Robert A. Smith, the Jeffords trainer, to save this filly for the Maryland. Kentucky and Belmont Iark Stakes for threo-ycar-old fillies. There is a George Smith colt among the Jeffords two-year-olds. This is Sam Smith, a bay from the mare Nethersole. b Troubadour. He could run last fall when he was broken. • .
