Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Nov. 14, 1903 Racing at Jamaica, Latonia and Oakland. Horses belonging to various owners were sold in the paddock at Jamaica before the races. Mrs. L. Curtis, the owner of Eugenia Burch, bought the filly Stolen Moments for ,100, the top price of the sale. Rigodon, of which much was expected by the Keene stable, was sold to W. B. Cloto for ,050. The Riverside and Continental Handicaps shared the spotlight at Jamaica today, the former falling to Dolly Spanker, owned by R. T. Wilson, which was an added starter. Grenade was second and St. Valentine third. The conditions were three-quarters of a mile, for two-year-olds. Tha Continental Handicap saw the colors of W. B. Leeds victorious when his bay colt Hurstbourne was given the decision over Sheriff Bell by a head. Redfern, on Hurstbourne, rode Higgins close all the way and right at the end Higgins pulled up Sheriff Bell. The latter claimed foul but it was not allowed. Masterman took third place four lengths in advance of Duke of Kendall. The Club Members Cup at Latonia created much rivalry among the owners, seven horses going to the post for the two and one-quarter miles race, which has ,000 added and a gold cup valued at 50. G. Hendrie furnished the winner in his Cayuga colt Reservation, which beat J. K. Hughes Neversuch by a length. The others were outclassed, twenty-five lengths separating the first two horses from the remainder of the field. Judge Hinies was third a length before Hunter Raine. The showing of Judge Himes was the fault of jockey Phillips, who had a choking pull on the celt for the first mile and a half and when called on the colt tired badly and quit, which was to be expected under the circumstances. Oaklands first day of racing was run over a sloppy track. The Opening Handicap fell to an outsider, Eonic, owned by C. Young, Barney Schreibers Schwalbe capturing second place from the favorite, Kenilworth, by four lengths. Eonic ran to her best form. Lucky at the start, she trailed Schwalbe closely to the stretch, where she moved up like a flash into a sudden and unexpected lead and held her own to the end. Schwalbe was away running and led for seven furlongs under restraint, apparently a sure winner, but when straightened out for the wire tired suddenly and then came again in the closing strides. Kenilworth left the barrier slowly and, running on the inside throughout, had a rough journey to the stretch,, where he saved third place after a long and game drive with Ben MacDhui. The distance was one mile, for three-year-olds and over, the net value to the winner being ,800. Don Domo, running in the colors of J. F. Newman, captured the first race of the meeting for two-year-olds when he beat Padua and Sailor Knott home in the second race over the Futurity course. "
