i j j E. F. WHITNEY JUVENILES Showing Up Well in the Racing at Oriental Park. Wisconsin Turfman, A. S. Eastman, Has Largest Stable at Havana W. L. Drakes String. . HAVANA, Cuba, Jan. 23. It appears as though E. F. Whitney is destined to reap a harvest in the two-year-old races here this winter. Trainer William Irvine has four juveniles under his care for owner Whitney, and they are trained to the minute. The first three races dedicated to the "babies" found Gymkhana winning two and Parmachenee Belle the other. Both of these youngsters are in the Whitney outfit. This pair started yesterday again and the first mentioned was unlucky to loose, being beaten by a nose. Little or no trouble has been experienced in filling the two-year-old races at Oriental Park. The owners of the young horses are desirous of earning purses with them ns soon as possible, and even when tne course was rt its worst liberal responses were made to the entries. A. S. Eastman, who hails from Racine, Wis., but who confines most of his racing operations to the Kentucky circuit, has the. largest stable quartered at the local track. His band is made up of seventeen, and it is in charge of John L. Paul of Louisville. It includes only a pair of two-year-olds, Thats the Time, a chestnut colt by. Star Master Susan Lennox half brother of Right on Time, and an unnamed black filly by Star Master Little DcVil. The other members of the Eastman establishment are Right on Time, Mallowmot, Wyoming, The Ulster, Rylla Girl, Runzaf, Halu, San Pablo, Okla-loosa, Marmaduke, Auntie Millin, Some Pumpkins, Rapid Stride, Polar Cub and All Aglow. Thus far the Eastman horses have raced in good fashion. Right on Time winning four races previous to the first of the year. Fin-castle, formerly a member of the Eastman string, gave the patrons of the track a thrill when he won a race in his colors recently and paid 02.90 for a ticket in the pari-mutuels. SIX OWNERS REPRESENTED. W. L. Drake is another Kentuckian who has a fair-sized stable under his care here. He has twelve horses in his barn, the property of six owners, including himself. For J. E. Leatherman he is training Mary P. Gardner, Cautious and Libyan Queen ; Ferguson, Nurse Jane, Emily and Kildare Boy race in the interest of S. W. Gainer; Hullo is owned by F. Gardner ; Huen sports the silks of P. L. Putnam ; Firetoma and Ben Bolt represent Harncd Brothers and Jones of Louisville, while Drake, who also hails from the Falls City, has Black Deuce, a two-year-old black filly by Libyan Sands Deuces, to race for himself. To date Drake has saddled quite a few winners. Kildare Boy raced here with much success for W. F. Knebelkamp, Louisville baseball magnate, several years ago, but went amiss and was turned out on the island for a long while. Drake took him up last fall and he is training soundly again. Former jockey Bobert M. Small has branched out as an owner and trainer. He has only two horses at the present time Volima and Weinland but he expects to acquire a few more before the meeting ends. Small rode with marked success for J. W. Fuller, Texas turfman, some years back, but increasing weight forced him to abandon the saddle profession.
