Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Jan. 24, 1904 Sunday, no racing. Jack Hachmeister, secretary of the Fair Grounds race track at St. Louis, has arrived at Nashville in the interests of the Worlds Fair Stakes. Mr. Hachmeister will likely oe cure Gold Heels, Brancas and Reservation. At the reopening of the stake Hachmeister thinks he will add to those already entered Highball, Africander, English Lad, Reservation, Branca? Waterboy and Gold Heels. The stake has a guaranteed value of 0,000. John Mack ay, manager of the Rancho del Paso, J. B. Haggins great California breeding establishment, has bought from Gus Straus, acting for H. Eugene Leigh, now of Chantilly, France, the chestnut stallion Kign William II.. by Spendthrift Kannpanga, by Victoria. The price is private, but reported to be ,000. King William II. is a brother to Kingston, J. R, Keenes great stallion, at Castlston Stud. He is eleven years old and was raced with success by Leigh. H. - H. Hyner of Cincinnati has signed to train for the racing stable of Stephen Sanford next season. He was formerly connected with the stable of J. B. Respess, the weli-know.i western turfman and the owner of Dick Welles. Mr. Hyner has arrived at Amsterdam, N. Y., and will take charge of the horses in the Sanford stable at once. Mr. Sanford made his offer to Hyner last week and the Cincinatian asked for a few days to consider it. Mr. Sanford received a favorable reply on Monday and asked Hyner to come on as soon as possible.
