HAPPY MANS OWNER DEAD LONDON, England, March 22. Fred Hardy, owner of Happy Man and other good horses, died Friday after an illness of three weeks. Hardy was an extremely popular horseman, especially at Manchester, where he had business interests and won many races. He had been campaigning a stable for about twenty-five years. Happy Man was easily the best horse that ever carried his colors. At the time of his death Hardy had twenty-five horses in training under Captain Hogg. His son and his wife also have maintained racing stables. One day last year at Birmingham all three won races. Happy Man, which suffered severe injuries to his foreleg during the running of the Chester Cup in 1922, returned to racing with success last year in spite of tlie fact that he had been considered hopelessly crippled. 1
