RINKEYS NARROW ESCAPE Ashland Oaks Winner Appeared Hopeless Cripple When Foal ā€” How She Was Saved. LEXIXOTOX. Ky.. May Lā€” Few persons are aware that the Creentree Stables Bin-key, winner of the Ashland Oaks Saturday, narrowly escaped destruction in her early days. When foaled she appeared a hopeless cripple, and manager Berryman and veterinarian Haggard were for destroying her, but the foreman of the Whitney farm insisted that her ailment would correct itself in time. His insistence won and steel splints were applied to the unsound legs with a view to their straightening and strengthening. Later brace boots, covering the forelegs to the knee, were fashioned on the filly and the infirmities were gradually corrected. Thero was no thought of racing her at first, but the legs appeared sound and she was put in training with successful results. ā–  a
