BALTIMORE, Md., May 1. — Famous eld Pimlico was today the scene of one of the most auspicious inaugurations of spring racing under the jurisdic:ion of the Maryland Jockey I Club, which had its inception in 1S6S. The principal attraction of opening day was the Jennings Handicap and Shuffle Alon* I easily ran three-quarters in 1:11% in winning the second renewal of this fixture, which was established last year. F. Stevens donned the silks of A. C. Bostwick to ride the four-yea r- Id sen of Ruke McLuke. Big Blaze, from the stable of S. D. Riddle, finished second. se en lengths behind the winner. The Riddle establishment wen the first running of the stake I last year with Dinna Care. Gifford A. Cochrans Sunspero finished a neck behind the Riddle aPreakness candidate. Golden Rule beat t!.o others. The race was worth ,050 to t!.a winner. F. Stevens had the leg on the Bostwick representative. Reaving the post alertly, Shuffle Along moved to the front and dievr away in the stretch under 110 pounds when the real racing began. Big Blaze was cl s-est to the pace throughout. He tired near the end slightly and barely outlasted Sunspero for the second portion of the stake. j Sunspero was outrun early, while his stable- mate, Sun Flag, attempted to force tl a j pace. At the turn into the stretch Sunspero saved ground and finished fastest of all. Todays opening was conducted over a fast track despite the rains of Wednesday.
