JAMAICAS SPRING MEETING , „ . Metropolitan Jockey Club Gave j 03,045 in Stakes and Purses. . • Ranroras Stable Largest Winner — Ordinance Most Successful of Horses — Triple Tie for Hiding Honors. • The first of the spring meetings over the I New York tracks was held at Jamaica from April 29 to May 21. During the twenty days of racing, there were 120 races run and the Metropolitan Jockey Club distributed the sum of 03,045 in stakes and purses, the daily average distribution amounting to | 0,152. It was at Jamaica last year that the Ran-cocas Stable started on its record-breaking campaign that ended with a new world mark for earnings on the turf in a single year. This spring, Rancocas, though meeting with several unexpected reverses, notably the defeat of Zev, again found Jamaica a fertile field of endeavor, fourteen races and 5,230 representing its share of the prize money. August Belmont, who has not figured prominently in our racing of late years, met with marked success at Jamaica, his horses earning 7,705. H. P. Whitney likewise did well with 7,200 to his credit. Ordinance won three stake races and 3,-170, easily proving the star of the meeting and the largest money winner. Maud Muller won ,350, Zev ,000. Rialto ,650, Elf ,650, Master Charlie ,150, and these were the principal winners among the horses. The old "wizard" Sam Hildreth tops the trainers with fourteen victories, while there was a triple tie for riding honors between J. H. Burke, L. McAtee and E. Sande, each with 10 winners.
