SILVER SERVICE TO WINNER Edgewater Beach Hotel Handicap Winner to Get Gold Embossed Silver Service. One of the outstanding features contemplated for the meeting is the Edgewater Beach Hotel Handicap, which will have its decision near the close of the Hawthorne racing. It is proposed to make the occasion of the running of the race a gala day, with society playing a prominent part in the proceedings. No feature that has been carded at the west-side track, including the Chicago Derby, in which Black Gold triumphed, over August Belmonts Ladkin, has attracted more interest than the Edgewater Beach Hotel Handicap. The Chicago Derby was exclusively for 3-year-olds, whereas the Edgewater Beach Hotel Handicap enables racers of more mature years, including three-year-olds, to participate. This insures in the race the presence cf cracks in all divisions and virtually makes the Edgewater Beach Hotel; Handicap the feature of the Chicago racing season. The interest attaching to the Tape and the activity- and preparation by many who contemplate witnessing its running, is a reminder of Washington Parks halcyon Derby days when wealth, fashion and society lent itself with eclat to make the occasion "the" event of the season. Manager William M. Dewey ; and his associates of Edgewater Beach Hotel are -leaving nothing undone that will assist to make the coming- occasion a replica of Washington Parks American Derby Day. A leading silversmith, by Mr. Deweys order, is now at w"ork designing an ornate service, embossed with gold, to be given the winner. The jockey will also be remembered handsomely with a suitable present. Eight of the choicest Club House boxes have been set aside for the guests of Edge-water Beach Hotel for August 30 and Hawthorne will further make it an Edgewater Beach Hotel occasion by displaying the Hotels burgees on, the staffs of the Judges" and Timers stands. Manager Dewey has also instructed that two of the Hotels motor coaches be furnished and has placed orders for "coaching uniforms" for the postillions who will "bugle" at intervals along the. route to Hawthorne. The general manager and his principal assistants will have personal supervision of the merry party of Edgewater Beach Hotel guests who will go to the track.
