ENERGY IN A FAST FINISH Runs Three -Quarters in 1 :11 25 to Beat New Hampshire by a Head. Lilt Triumphs Over Best Love in Mile Race Lady Argos in Front AH the Way. WINDSOR, Ont., Aug. - 21. Energy ran three-quarters in 1:11 at Windsor this afternoon and had to complete the three-quarters in that notch to triumph over New Hampshire. The J. B. Respess three-year-old was off in front and set a "fast pace easily but New Hampshire closed with a rush cut-side of him and was beaten only a head for the major portion of the purse for the La .Salle Handicap, the feature of the third program of the Windsor Jockey Clubs second summer meeting. Sarko, War Man, Mercury and Just David completed the field for the La Salle and finished in the crder named. While Harvey was going along in front on Energy through the rear stretch, War Man arid Sarko followed a length behind. Mercury was also lapped on the -second arid; third horses and New JJampshire, in. fifth position, was recovering his stride after being shuffled back in the first sixteenth. Straightened out, War Man and Mercury began to tire as Sarko moved into second position and New Hampshire into third. An eighth out New Hampshire was still nearly three lengths away from the leader and just beginning to run. He closed with a rush, but just missed by a narrow margin. The crowd was about of a size of that of yesterday. There were a few more than 4500 persons on hand today. The weather was ideally cool and the skies clear. Pete Walls rode his second winner of the afternoon .ien he piloted J. K. L. Ross Lilt to a three-length victory over Best Love in the mile contest that came fourth on the card. Anne was two and a half lengths behind the first two at the finish. Odd Seth and Grace Mayers also ran. Best Love went to the front from the rise of the barrier and made pace into the stretch. She came wide at the head of the stretch carrying Lilt with her, but the daughter of Spanish Prince H., was good enough to overcome the interference and to win easily. It was the first winner at the meeting from the stable of Commander Ross. Prince Hampton won the first of the seven races. H. Thomas had the leg on the Kenton Stable colt Marie Dattner made pace for the winner and for Damon Runyon but quit in Continued on sixteenth pase. Damon Runyon took up tho running where she left off but fell before the challenge of Prince Hampton and was beaten a neck. My Idol got up to take third money from Marie Dattner. C. F. Clarks Lady Argos was not headed after the start in the sixth. She carried J. A. Mooney to a two-length victory over Royal Dick in a contest at three-quarters. It was the second score of the afternoon for the rider. Previeux beat the others. Starter Marshall Cassidy is schooling horses at Kenilworth daily from 8:30 to 0:30 a. m. R. F. Carman will send eight horses to Thorncliffe and TV. Cain will campaign a dozen at the Toronto course. Entries for the opening day at Connaught Park, Ottawa, will be accepted here up to noon Tuesday. The racing at Ottawa be- gins a week from today.
