Field for Golden Rod Stakes LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 7. Fourteen of the pick of the western two-year-olds have been named to start Saturday afternoon in the annual renewal of the Golden Rod Stakes, with ?5,000 added money, at seven-eighths, which will provide a worthy closing day feature of the Kentucky Jockey Club. The race promises to develop into a fine contest and in keeping with the best traditions of the stake. Captain Hal, the locally owned colt, whose performances this autumn have been brilliant ones, and Lee O. Cotner, whose racing also has been of a high order, are regarded as the strongest possibilities for first honors. Captain Hal carries top weight of 127 pounds. Lee O. Cotner gets in with 123 pounds. The Golden Rod candidates were given their tighening up gallops Friday morning over a fast track. Captain Hal displayed keen speed when he ran a quarter in :2SH, half in :iVs and was eased up five-eighths in 1:01. Riviera ran a half in :4S. King Nadi and Deeming went a similar distance respectively in :50 and :51. Annihilator and Abstract went together three-eighths in :36 and Cream Puff a half in :50. P.P. Horse. Wt. Jockey. Owner.
