LATEST TURF GOSSIP FROM NEW ORLEANS NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 21. . Charles Rowe has been granted a trainers license. Jockey Chick Lan was indisposed and cancelled his few riding engagements for Wednesday afternoon. Jockey Russell McDermott has arranged to leave Saturday for his home in Detroit, Mich. Jockey George Cooper returned to the saddle Wednesday afternoon after serving a five-day suspension for rough riding on Knights Bridge. Jockey L. McDermott departed for his home in Hamilton, Out., where he will remain until spring, when he reports to the stable of his contract employer, Howard Oots. Clyde Ponce, a recent arrival -from New York, had his first mount when he was astride of Sophy in the seventh race Tuesday. The stewards have issued strict orders that no one be admitted to the jockeys room except those persons having business there. Battle Shot, Gem and Edward Gray have been added to the schooling list.
