1 GIBBS RETURNS TO FRANCE Dam of A. K. Macombers Crack Racer, The Sirdar, Going Back to Haras du Quesnay. " LEXINGTON, Ky., Dec. 21. Gibbs, dam of The Sirdar, one of ths best horses in A. K. Macombers string in France, is on her way across the ocean, to be returned to tho Haras du Quesnay. Gibbs is nine years old. and is by Sea Sick, cut of Gilbene, by Court-ls. She Avas bred in France and was one of the consignment sent over by Mr. Ma-comber and sold at Diirlands in New York. December 15, 1022. She was purchased by Miss Elizabetth Daingerfield for ,900, and a few weeks later was sold to Edwar.l i Cebrian, for whom she had a filly by Mac Kinley, a coming two-year-old, and a good one, in the string Harry Rites is training for .T. E. Griffith in Maryland, and a colt by Troutbeck, now a weanling at Kceneland Farm. The negotiations for the repurchase of Gibbs from Mr. Cebrian were conducted by cable. The impression here is The Sirdar has shown something remarkable to cause Mr. Macomber to want his dam at Haras du Quesnay, one of the greatest of all the breeding establishments in France. Hon. Joseph "V. Bailey, former United States Senator from Texas, has been at his Donegal farm here for a couple of days. He has sold all of his mares with the exception of one, a cripple, and two, in which he and Krnest Featherstone have joint interest, but he still retains the stallion, Pataud, and his one-fourth interest in High Time. He also has nine weanlings, "coming yearlings." "It is my intention," said Senator Bailey, "to buy more mares as soon as I can get a better stand of grass on my pasture land. For the present, my interest lies in giving Pataud a proper chance in the stud. This horse has had sixty-five foals from generally indifferent mares and out of that number has thirty-two winners." Four of his daughters had two-year-olds racing this year, three of which won and the other was beaten by a head. There is no better blood than Patauds. I have decided to stand him free to approved mares the coming season. He has some promising coming two-year-olds and coming yearlings. They being out of better mares than previously visited his court."
